How does the AI Process Engineer work?

We apply Lean value stream mapping. Following a proprietary methodical approach, ESSAM will ask you for your process elements covering your process output, your process customer, relevant stakeholders, and steps involved. We'll draw out your current process, categorize all activities as value adding, non-value adding, and non-value adding but necessary. Then we'll calculate your current process TAT and efficiency level. ESSAM will then identify wasteful activities in your value stream and recommend what to do with them. You'll get an ESSAM table summarizing this analysis. A new process will be mapped out complete with expected efficiency improvements. Finally, ESSAM will also draft your new procedure to keep it in your SOP booklet.

What is Lean Thinking and Value Stream Mapping?

In Lean Thinking, processes are seen as Value Streams focused on value creation. We categorize activities as value-adding, non-value-adding, or non-value-adding but necessary. Higher efficiency is achieved by removing wasteful activities from your value stream. Waste is defined as activities that consume resources but produce no value. In Lean Thinking, value is defined from the customer point of view. The sanity check for categorizing activities as value adding or non-value adding is by simply asking: would the customer pay us to carry out this step within our process?

What is MUDA and how is waste identified?

MUDA, or waste, refers to any activity that consumes resources but produces no value. These wasteful activities are categorized into 8 types: Defects, Waiting, Overproduction, Unused Skills, Transportation, Motion, Inventory, and Over-processing. Processes are streamlined by removing these wasteful activities from your value stream.

How do you handle identified waste?

We apply our proprietary ESSAM framework:

  • Eliminate: Remove non-value-adding activities.
  • Simplify: Limit waste through simplification.
  • Standardize: Reduce errors with standard procedures.
  • Automate: Increase speed with automation.
  • Migrate: assign to someone else.

What’s the end result?

You'll get the following:

  • Swim-lane diagram mapping out your current process along with cycle time and process efficiency
  • ESSAM table analyzing your current process, identifying waste, and recommending how to fix it
  • New optimized process diagram complete with anticipated time saving and efficiency improvements
  • Draft procedure to document your work and add it to your SOP booklet
